Shohei Ohtani came through in the clutch to end the Los Angeles Angels’ four-game losing streak.
Ohtani hit a game-winning two-run double in the eighth inning to lift the Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday (May 5) at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, USA.
Ohtani, who had gone 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored the day before, had a rough night at the plate. He struck out in all three of his at-bats, in the first, fourth, and sixth innings.
The Angels bats were also held hitless until the sixth inning, aside from a solo shot by Luis Renfroe. In the seventh, they had runners on second and third with one out, but Hunter Renfroe was silent.
It was Ohtani who broke through the Angels’ clog. With two on and one out in the eighth, Ohtani faced his fourth and final at-bat, and after a six-pitch battle with Houston second baseman Phil Meyton, he lined a double to right field.
