Golden State is moving to transfuse some young blood.
ESPN’s draft expert Jonathan Gibbon gave his predictions for the 2023 NBA Draft on Friday (Nov. 15) and discussed the Golden State Warriors’ plans.
Golden State, led by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, is a win-now team that focuses on the present rather than the future. With the largest luxury tax in the league, Golden State wants immediate results.
The Warriors have plenty of young talent waiting to develop, including Jonathan Cuminga, Jordan Poole, and Moses Mudiay. However, the Warriors’ championship aspirations make it harder for younger players to be given opportunities and roles than other teams. The Warriors have been reluctant to trade younger players, hoping to get both Winnow and the development of their prospects, but it hasn’t worked out that way.
Reports of Steph Curry’s locker room conversations revealed his dissatisfaction with the roles of younger players, and forward Jonathan Cuminga is also unhappy with his playing time and role on the team. The former No. 7 overall pick, who was touted as a gem full of potential, averaged 9.9 points in 20.8 minutes this season, and was left out of the main rotation entirely in the playoffs. His inexperience was a big part of the reason.
After the season, rumors continued to surface that Kuminga would leave the team. Strongly seeking more opportunities, Kuminga planned to showcase his potential with public showcases in major cities. It’s unusual for an active player in the NBA to have a showcase.
The idea is that Golden State would trade Kuminga or another youngster for a higher pick to get a prospect the organization has been eyeing. If the trade goes as planned, it would also slightly reduce the salary cap, which would allow the team to spend less on the luxury tax.메이저놀이터
“Golden State is looking to trade Jonathan Cuminga or another player to acquire a top draft pick,” Gibboni said.
The Warriors have a lot on their plate this summer, including dealing with Draymond Green’s contract. It will be interesting to see what kind of roster the Warriors open next season with.
