Coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced the first list.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced a call-up list of 26 players ahead of the second A-match in March. Most of the players who participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar were selected for this list because coach Klinsman took over as new command tower on the 27th of last month and did not have enough time to look at the players himself.
There are only two players that are different from the World Cup roster. Yoon Jong-gyu (FC Seoul) and Hong Chul (Daegu FC) were left out, and Lee Ki-je (Suwon Samsung) and Oh Hyeon-gyu (Celtic, Scotland) joined. Yoon Jong-kyu and Hong-chul, who are injured, were excluded, and Lee Ki-je, who was called from Bento Lake, and Oh Hyun-kyu, who was selected for the World Cup preliminary list, were named.
Lee Ki-je played against Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka in the second qualifying round for the Qatar World Cup held in June 2021. Oh Hyun-kyu played an impressive performance in an evaluation match against Iceland in November last year, right before the World Cup. This call-up list has a large character to celebrate advancing to the round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Coach Klinsman, who visited the K-League match between FC Seoul and Ulsan Hyundai a day before the announcement of the roster, clearly talked about this.
When asked about the list announcement criteria, coach Klinsman said, “It is simple. I will select players based on the players who participated in the Qatar World Cup. They deserve praise in front of the fans for their performance in reaching the round of 16. We are excited to have a place to praise our players.”
Now, Klins Man-ho will convene at the Paju National Training Center (NFC) on the 20th. Then, on the 24th at Ulsan Munsu Soccer Stadium, Colombia and Uruguay at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 28th. A new start for the national team is expected by many fans.
