Denver has won its first game in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals since its inception. The Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat 104-93 on Sunday in Game 1 of the best-of-seven series to determine the NBA champion for the 2022-2023 season. It’s the Nuggets’ first championship game victory in franchise history. Founded in 1967, Denver played professionally in the American Basketball Association (ABA) before moving to the NBA in 1976.

The Nuggets were led by “Triple Doubler” Nikola Jokic (pictured). Jokic scored a game-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 14 assists. With the win, Jokic extended his single-season playoffs (PO) record for most triple-doubles in a season to nine, set on March 23 in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.
